Karoo Primary School, established in 1992, is located in Rowville. The school has developed a positive culture of making a difference in students’ education and assisting them to achieve their potential.

Karoo is part of the Rowville Cluster of Schools and we have a unique zoning policy established by the Region where we only draw enrolments from a defined area. We have a current enrolment of 675 students, spread across 28 classes. We anticipate the likelihood of the loss of one class each year as enrolments begin to decrease.

We have just completed Stage 2 of a $3.1 million upgrade and moved into our new administration in October 2008. This followed the completion of a 6 classroom Year 5 / 6 Middle Years complex designed to cater for upper primary students and prepare them for transition into the Secondary arena. We also built a Multi Use facility to complement our gymnasium.

With the Federal Government stimulus package we are in the process of creating a substantial artificial turf area. We will also be having another 4 classroom building constructed that will house an Early Years level and provide very specialised teaching areas.

Close association is maintained with local pre-schools and the Rowville Secondary College to ensure a smooth transition process.

The school encourages a close relationship between home and school with the emphasis that education is a partnership between parents, students and teachers.
Strong support from the community is achieved as indicated by an enthusiastic School Council and committee structure and we welcome parent participation in a range of school activities.
The school has a strong commitment to the development of each student - as a person, as a learner and as a responsible citizen with an emphasis on:

  • personal and academic achievement
  • pride to achieve to the best of their ability
  • responsibility for their own learning
  • self esteem and self discipline
  • respect, tolerance and understanding of self and others
  • balance of co-operation and competition
  • equal opportunity
