The Safer Active Schools Program aims to decrease traffic congestion around schools, improve school crossing safety and encourage children and parents to use active transport to and from school.
Through a ranking process, Karoo was selected to pilot the program in Term 2 2014. A number of things occurred at and around the school before, during and after Term 2.
Over the term, we saw:
Lottie the School Crossing Mascot who came and visited our students and encouraged them to safely cross the street;
Local Laws Officers encouraged safe parking and safe driver behaviour around the school;
Knox Police Highway Patrol Officers where out in force to remind the school community about safety;
Speed Trailers where set up to remind drivers of their speed; and
Traffic Tubes Counters to monitor the number of cars using roads around the school throughout the project.
