From the Principal

Karoo Primary School is fortunate to provide an array of high standard facilities that link with a considerable investment in technologies to enable our students a great learning opportunity. I never tire of extolling the virtues of our students who collectively are a great group who represent themselves, their families and their school most capably.

My personal goal is to make a difference in the life of our students and enable them to achieve the best that they possibly can. This then relies strongly on a meaningful home school relationship that will support student learning. Effective communication is vital and I would encourage any parents with concerns or queries to contact my Assistant Principals or me at any time.

An update of recent events

As term 4 gets underway the days keep rushing by and we are now in the process of making plans for 2010.

Our prep transition will get into full swing with four Tuesday afternoons where the kinder students get to experience elements of the classroom and some of our specialist programs. We then have several days of “storytime” where they have the opportunity to again visit the classrooms and have stories read to them. This all leads to a Parent Information Night in late November and our official Prep transition day where next year’s classes and teachers come together.

We have our Year 3-6 camps in weeks 2-5 with Year 6 off to Coonawarra (near Bairnsdale), Year 5 to Bright, Year 4 to Arrabri Lodge in Warburton and Year 3 to Mt Morton Lodge in the Dandenongs.  Camps give students a great opportunity to gain independence and adjust to the opportunity of being away from home for a few days. Staff are to be commended on their levels of organisation and their personal time, and a considerable number of parents are also involved and we thank them for their support.

Staff will be busily writing reports and these will come home in the last week of term with your child’s portfolio.

We will also be having Christmas carols on Wednesday 16th of December. This will be a great way for the whole school to get together to celebrate the end of the year.

In the last two weeks of term we will have transition activities with all classes. This will be an opportunity for students to meet their next year’s teacher and participate in a variety of activities based on the “tribes” program which will assist them in settling in to their class for 2010.

Our year 6’s will have their Graduation Night on the Monday 14th December at Rowville SC in their auditorium. This is always a great evening as we celebrate the end of their Primary school life.

An action packed term indeed!
